READER SUGGESTS VOTE CHOICES

To the editor:

This is to inform people reading High Gear of results we have found from our efforts in seeking support from statewide candidates. From questionnaires, interviews, or observation of these people, we have this information:

Governor: Richard Celeste (D) personally invited five Columbus gay activists into his office at the Statehouse to discuss issues of concern to gay people of Ohio in August, 1977. One month later, in response to a question on the issue of gay rights on a statewide television interview, he stated unequivocally his firm support. In addition, he has a number of openly gay people working for his election. On the other hand, James Rhodes (R) vetoed a bill of great concern to gay people,

is known to have shunned friends of his who came out to him, and according to rumor, personally invited the Florida orange juice pusher to address the IWY convention in Columbus.

Brown won.

Ohio Supreme Court: Both candidates for Chief Justice were on the court and voted against us in the Brown case. However, Associate Justice William B. Brown is up for reelection and deserves the vote of every gay Ohioan. Justice Brown was one of the three

Attorney General: Neither is good. George Smith (R) is an allgood. George Smith (R) is an all-Clev.Hts.,O. around fascist and William Brown (D) attempted to have an anti-gay marriage bill shepherded through the Ohio General Assembly (we beat him) and is of the view that public officials may deny civil rights to gay people since we are not in the civil rights laws.

Secretary of State: Anthony Celebrezze (D) is fully supportive of the rights of gay people. Ted Brown (R) some years back refused to charter a gay organization because he said homosexuality was not accepted in our society. The issue went to the Ohio Supreme Court and

judges on the court to vote for gay people and against the secretary of state. He has continued to be responsive to gay people. Asociate Justice Paul Brown is also up for re-election and deserves to be dumped. He voted against us in that case.

We have nothing to report on the candidates for treasurer of state. The Republican candidate

There is some information. Get out and vote November 7th.
